JOB DESCRIPTION

 

TITLE:  Temporary Social worker

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Educational Administration,  or related early childhood or disability related field plus 3 years experience in working with families in the community or Associate’s Degree in the ECE or other as listed above plus 5 years experience in working with families in the community.   Three additional years of experience may be substituted for the Associate’s Degree.

 

  1. Ability to multitask, strong attention to detail and organization; ability to prioritize and complete tasks prior to deadlines. 

 

  1. Ability to work cooperatively and as a member of a team with parents, staff, family child care providers and the community-at-large.  Conduct yourself and appearance in a professional manner at all times.

 

  1. Requires reliable transportation to travel to all SDN programs sites and training programs throughout the Pioneer Valley. 

 

  1. Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite including Excel, Access, Word and Outlook for e-mail.  

 

  1. Flexible hours are necessary. 

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

 

The Temporary Social Worker will perform a variety of tasks that include, but which are not limited to:

 

  1. Provide parent education and support services through home visiting, using a strength-based approach.

 

  1. Offer outreach services to families, both in the community and at SDN sites, by building and maintaining a resource clearinghouse of information applicable to families with young children.  The information will include but is not limited to; Health Care, Food Stamps, Oral Health, Early Childhood Education and Care, and other needed resources/topics. 

 

  1. Participate in other outreach activities including community fairs & events, local high schools, homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, housing projects, pediatric offices, health centers, WIC offices, parent group sessions, promotional events, etc.

 

  1. Develop trust with families and connect them with needed resources (case management) including early education and care as needed, provide information and assistance to ensure that their young children have all the early health, family, and education and care experiences they need to enter school healthy and ready to succeed.

 

  1. Maintain the strictest confidentiality of documents, discussions, resources and information when working with families.  

 

  1. Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate parent education and support groups.

 

  1. Recruit, Hire, Supervise, Evaluate personnel and volunteers as needed based on project assignments.

 

  1. Other duties as assigned.

 

Physical Demand 

 

1.        Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time during working hours and on special occasions.  

 

2.        Ability to effectively utilize computer software programs with proven ability to have manual dexterity to maintain specific databases and reports. 

 

3.        Excellent auditory, verbal and sensory skills and abilities.    

 

Mental/ Visual Demand 

 

1.        High attention to detail involving normal mental and visual attention.

 

Working Conditions

 

1.        Professional business office setting.
