JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Social worker I
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s
Degree in Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Early
Childhood Special Education, Educational Administration, or related early
childhood or disability related field plus 3 years experience in working
with families in a clinical community based agency. Substitution for Bachelor’s Degree may
include enrollment in an Institution of Higher Education in a degreed
program and 5 years experience in a clinical setting.
- Ability
to multitask, strong attention to detail and organization; ability to
prioritize and complete tasks prior to deadlines.
- Ability
to work cooperatively and as a member of a team with parents, staff,
family child care providers and the community-at-large. Conduct yourself and appearance in a
professional manner at all times.
- Requires reliable transportation to
travel to all Square One’s program sites and training programs throughout
the Pioneer Valley.
- Computer
proficiency in MS Office Suite including Excel, Access, Word and Outlook
for e-mail.
- Bilingual
skills in both English & Spanish are strongly preferred.
- Flexible
hours are necessary.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The Social Worker I
will perform a variety of tasks that may include, but which are not limited to:
- Offer
outreach services to families, both in the community and at Square One
sites, by building and maintaining a resource clearinghouse of information
applicable to families with young children. The information will include but is not limited to; Health
Care, Food Stamps, Oral Health, Early Childhood Education and Care,
housing and other needed resources/topics.
- Participate
in other outreach activities including community fairs & events, local
high schools, homeless shelters, prisons, domestic violence shelters,
housing projects, pediatric offices, health centers, WIC offices, parent group
sessions, promotional events, etc.
- Develop
trust with families and connect them with needed resources (case
management) including early education and care as needed, provide
information and assistance to ensure that their young children have all
the early health, family, and education and care experiences they need to
enter school healthy and ready to succeed.
- Provide
parent education and support services through home visiting and group
services, using a strength-based approach.
- Maintain
the strictest confidentiality of documents, discussions, resources and
information when working with families.
- Plan,
develop, implement, and evaluate parent information sessions and project
activities. Work with an array of guest speakers on a variety of topics
such as; Mass Health, Food Stamps, Oral Health and other needed
resources/topics.
- Recruit,
Hire, Supervise, Evaluate personnel or volunteers as needed based on
project assignments.
- Other duties as
assigned.
