JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

TITLE:    CENTER DIRECTOR

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Have the personal qualities to work with children and the ability to relate to parents, staff and the community in

     which the children live.

 

2.  a.)  Hold a Master’s Degree in early childhood education, or a closely related field with two (2) years teaching

           experience (preferably in a day care setting); and hold Director I or II certification, as designated by Office

           of Child Care Services.

 

b.)     Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education, or a closely related field with three (3) years

       teaching experience (preferably in a day care setting); and hold Director I or II certification, as designated    

       by Office of Child Care Services.

 

3.  For Center/Programs having (or anticipating) seven (7) or more Special Needs children, the following

     additional qualifications will be required:

 

                a.)  Have two (2) years teaching experience which included eighteen (18) months half-time experience

                    with Special Needs Children.

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

 

The Center Director administers the total program, carries responsibilities for its operation and acts as liaison between the Executive Director and the staff.

 

The Center Director shall:

 

 1.  Support, facilitate and improve the service within the  policies established by the Board.

 

2.        Bring before the Executive Director information that will assist him/her in formulating sound policies, to help

       the Executive Director to develop such policies and to make recommendations for changes and improvements

       in accordance with children, staff and parent’s needs.

 

 3.  Provide leadership in planning and evaluating center services.

 

 4.  Select, employ, supervise, evaluate and, when necessary, dismiss professional, clerical and maintenance staff in

      consolation with other appropriate supervisory personnel, as assigned to their Center.

 

 

EDUCATION:

 

 

 1.  Responsible to the Assistant Executive Director for the implementation of the education program.

 

 2.  Responsible to implement the educational goals through a planned curriculum in writing for the entire Center.

 

 3.  Supervises teachers in their weekly planning.

 

 4.  Supervises the implementation of the teachers planning, both short and long range.

 

 5.  Supervises the diagnostic procedures for assisting children.

 

6.    Supervises teachers in their use and implementation of the data gathered from diagnostic procedures.

 

7.        Supervises the implementation of teachers daily schedule and all the transition periods that occur during the

       day.

 

 8.   Supervises the best use of classroom space and appropriate equipment.

 

 9.   Supervises and coordinates scheduling and center activities that involve more than one classroom.

 

10.  Keeps abreast of the latest literature in the field of early childhood education.

 

11.  Attends conferences, workshops, seminars; visit other centers and programs.

 

12.  Provides for the staff development and for the development of a career ladder for staff in cooperation with the

       Assistant Executive Director.

 

13.  Provides a program of staff development in cooperation with the Assistant Executive Director and with local 

       resources.

 

14.  Supervises or carries out all purchasing of supplies and equipment in consultation with other appropriate

       program personnel.

 

15.  Consults with the Family Support component on intakes to insure necessary distribution of appropriate

       information to staff members.

 

SOCIAL SERVICE:

 

1.  Sees that positive relationships are established with parents.

 

2.  Monitors timelines of parent conferences.

 

3.  Available for conferences with parents, as needed.

 

4.  Works with teachers, family support staff and parents, as needed.

 

5.  Assures that parent group receives appropriate assistance in planning and implementing various activities.

 

6.  Coordinates children’s health screening.

 

ADMINISTRATION:

 

 1.  Helps prepare the budget, to expend funds with the approved budget and to provide adequate accountability for

      expenditure of funds.

 

 2.  Submits all financial reports and requisitions to the appropriate fiscal person.

 

 3.  Applies for appropriate license and certificates, such as local and state health, building and fire.

 

 4.  Sends regular reports to the Department of Social Services and others, as required.

 

 5.  Integrates the various components of the program by providing for and keeping open the lines of

      communication among staff and by defining clearly the allocation of authority within the program.

 

 6.  Establishes liaison and maintains working relationship between the program and the appropriate organizations,

      groups and individuals where the Center is housed.

 

 7.  Establishes and implements regular staff meetings and establish an orientation for volunteers.

 

 8.  Submits all compensatory, sick, vacation and time records and substitute reports to designated department.

 

 9.  Assures a clean, safe, healthy environment.

 

10.  Reviews menu planning and food preparation and post menus in coordination with the Nutritionist.

 

OTHER:

 

1.  Meets with all visitors and guests.

 

2.  Provides tours of the Center, as necessary.
